Shine On Teens Showcase their Summer Photos in Multiple City Exhibits
A critical part of Shine On Chicago's mission is to create a career path for Shine On Teens. Whether it’s in video production or photography, it’s therefore important to showcase teen work in gallery shows and exhibitions — so they have grist for their own digital portfolios.
The reason is twofold: first, it allows teens to share their voice, and their vision — of the world, with the world; and secondly, in that process, the Shine On teens gain a unique sense of satisfaction and self-confidence — when they see the reaction they get from others who view their photos or videos. So both the viewing public and the teens themselves benefit from these photo shows.
In the past, Shine On Chicago has had photo shows at The Harold Washington Library, The Back of the Yards Coffee Shop, The Back of the Yards Public Library, The West Belmont Library, The Bessie Coleman Library, The Toman Library, and The Art Institute of Chicago.
This fall, we will be having several exhibitions of Teen Photography from the 2019 summer program: a 6-month show at the Wintrust Bank in Logan Square; a 1-month show in October at The Lincoln Park Zoo, plus a 6-month show at The North Park Village Nature Center, as well as Shine On Photo Safari Shows at the Logan Square and Toman Library Branches. In addition, Shine On Chicago is participating in the 10 Year Anniversary Event for YOUmedia. at the end of September.
If you can’t get to these shows, but would like to see some of the teen imagery, check out the Shine On Virtual Photo Gallery below that features some of the teen work from the summer.
If after seeing their work, you’d like to support next summer’s program as well as the Spring Break and Holiday Photo Safari programs, then please donate below.
